The Problem

I am trying to solve hunger in my community. Job loss, the economy, medical bills, and natural disasters all affect a family's ability to put food on the table. Local food pantries like the Center for Food Action work to provide balanced meals for families in need but they need our help to collect food donations. On December 9, 2012, I organized the first "Music for Many" concert food drive and collected over 2,000 non-perishable food items and $500 in food store gift certificates to support my church (St. Paul Parish, Ramsey, NJ) and county food pantries (The Center for Food Action, Mahwah, NJ). Over 20 local musical acts came together over a 5 hour period and performed for audience members who brought in 3 non-perishable food items as admission.

Plan of Action

I would like to continue the "Music for Many" series. I have support from the local music community and the Center for Food Action, but there are costs involved. For the next concert, I will need sponsorship and funds to help with the transportation of the goods, refreshments for the musicians and crew during the long 10 hour day, administrative supplies (paper for fliers, copies, tape, etc.), and expanded marketing. Most of the equipment was borrowed and my high school donated the venue (auditorium with built in sound system). I will be graduating and might have to look for alternate venues as well. I would like to continue this good work and be a regular supplier of goods for the Center for Food Action or other emergency organizations.
