Pitman High School recently created a new elective called “Pride of Pitman,” in which students pursue a yearlong independent community service project. For my project, I helped found, develop, and organize a diversity and prejudice awareness program to broaden global perspectives within the community. To determine Pitman resident’s awareness of diversity and current events, our group created various gender appropriate surveys for children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly of the community. We also interviewed residents of different racial, religious, and social backgrounds to comprehend their perspective on Pitman. Once all the information from the surveys and interviews is compiled, we will attempt to improve our community diversity awareness by showing our documentary at a local theater and by making presentations of global issues to schools and elderly homes within the town.
