The plan for the project is to put on numerous activities and presentations throughout the school year informing, embracing, and supporting students around topics of body image and self-esteem.
List of activities and ideas:
Place a large piece of paper in an area of the school where there is high traffic. Write positive affirmations or thought-provoking questions on them (e.g. Get Real! What Makes You Beautiful? List 3 Things You Like About Who You Are). Hang pens from a string to allow others to add their own positive affirmations throughout the day.
Inside-Out Day: The day highlights the message, It’s What’s Inside That Counts. “Inside-Out” day is where students wear their clothing inside out to symbolically remind us of our inner strengths and beauty. The piece of clothing they wear inside out are their t-shirts where they can write inner qualities and strengths they are most proud of to celebrate their inner beauty.
Videos: Showing videos during our 2nd period, “Lynx Reading” time. The videos will focus on a variety of topics. Such as bullying, body image, self-esteem, and self-image.
* Another Video: I'm having students and staff members taking part of a video. They will have a photo taken of them with a piece of paper. That piece of paper will have a message, saying, drawing or comment written by them. They can write what they love about themselves, what makes them unique, what they would tell someone who is having a hard time dealing with their appearance, etc.
Just be you!
I am good at ______. (writing, singing, dancing, acting, basketball, soccer, etc.)
A favorite quote they love or inspires them.
A positive drawing or cartoon.
When the video is done it will be shown to the school.
Information Table: Having a table set up outside the school cafeteria in the commons or in a main gathering area so students can obtain helpful information on eating disorders and body dissatisfaction. This is also a place where a display will be.
“Get Real” Barbie: Is a life-size Barbie and display in a public place in order to demonstrate the unrealistic body image ideal of Barbie. There’s also a list of Barbie facts that can be displayed with the Barbie.
