"She Power" (Sewing, Hope & Empowerment-- Pakistani Outreach for Women's Educational Resources) was created (by myself and 2 friends) to raise money for training and educating young women in Pakistan who are poor and without a way to support themselves. The money is used to set up "Shelters of Hope" where the girls learn to sew (in order to make a living) and are also taught to read and write. If the girls are in dangerous home situations they are given shelter and protection. If they have been victims of abuse (rape, which is common, acid attacks, etc.) they are also given medical attention. It costs $2,000 US to set up (rent, purchase of 5 sewing machine and materials, salary for 2 teachers, mats and stools, transportation for the girls) and run a Shelter of Hope for a full year.We have raised over $2,200 to date and are presently putting together an International cookbook as a fund raiser. Besides recipes for many countries, this cookbook will feature information about the treatment of women and children in several countries (abuse, human trafficking, etc.) and list organizations working in these areas that the reader can contact to support and get involved with.
