The Problem

Every high school girl wants to go to prom, but not all families can afford a $500 dress. Typically to Americans, clothing is disposable, formal dresses especially. There is a wealth of beautiful dresses buried in closets and shoved in cellars, most less than five years old. We want to utilize these resources and provide every girl with the opportunity to attend her prom. Every girl deserves to feel a princess on her prom night without having to spend a fortune.

Plan of Action

We plan to collect prom dresses from community members and local businesses. We will advertise for our event via social media, local newspapers, and local TV stations to raise interest in not just our school, but also our area. This year we are planning to take our excess dresses after the Prom Dress Swap at our school and run the event again at a high school in the area. With our portable racks and dressing rooms made of PVC pipe, we can expand the impact of our event to reach other girls in need.
