The Problem

We are starting a program to supply healthy snacks for the 9th and 10th grade students at our school. We have a very late lunch period, and our hunger is distracting us from being able to focus on academics. It becomes very difficult to concentrate when all you can do is watch the clock and listen to your stomach growl. We are taught in health that it is better to eat many small meals throughout the day than to pig out once or twice, so we think a midmorning snack is a healthy choice. At our school, students are not allowed to bring food and keep it with them or in the lockers, because it gets too messy and leads to ant problems. The student who break this rule bring junk food snacks, like cookies and candy. This project will help our classmates make good choices about what they are putting into their bodies. Additionally, we feel it is important for the snacks to be free to the students. A large majority of our students come from families that don't have very much money, and they receive free or reduced price lunches everyday. This project is for the students who are headed down towards a bad eating habit, or not getting enough to eat at home, and to help them revice the nurtition they need.
