The Problem

1 There are little or no after-school programs for children with autism and other special needs. 2 Many special children have difficulty with both physical and cognitive issues. 3 Children with autism and other special needs are often discriminated against and bullied. 4 Children with special needs have difficulty in understanding and completing home work 4 Parents of children with special needs cant find full time employment because there is not any after school program for their children or it is not affordable.

Plan of Action

Special Dragons is a unique Clifton, New Jersey-based non-profit karate program that directly addresses the physical and cognitive issues associated with autism. It also offers anti-bullying strategies and advocates for non-discrimination of children with autism and other special needs. Currently held on Saturdays, Special Dragons seeks to become a full-service after-school program offering karate classes and homework support. The program would allow parents of children with autism the chance to obtain full-time employment, an opportunity that has been largely unavailable to them given that specialized programs are costly and extremely limited, if available at all.
