I partnered with The Gathering Place (a ministry located in Lancaster that gives Christian care to those infected and affected by HIV) to organize a weeklong summer camp for children from Lancaster City whose families were being affected by HIV. My goal was to provide the children with a fun-filled week in which they felt important and valued. I also taught them about the Bible. I got over seven other high school students to help run the camp and spend time with the kids each evening. We also wrote letters to local businesses to raise money for the camp and for The Gathering Place. During the camp, we did activities such as a waterslide, campfire, sports, crafts, bible lessons, and a cookout. This camp had a huge impact on the children because they were able to have fun and enjoy a week inspite of influence HIV was having in their lives. Also they learned about the Bible and felt loved and cared about by all the students willing to take time for them by volunteering at the camp.
