To develop an expeditionary learning program built to promote successful leaders by opening opportunities for youth to discover and exercise their strengths through outdoor experiential learning. This program will develop students through a multi-level system of experiential activities, ranging from weekly gym-rock climbs, day-hikes, and skill lessons to semi-annual multi-day camps that incorporate all skills learned throughout the year. Many activities will incorporate STEM learning (science, technology, engineering, and math) as students learn how to read a map, measure distance, use a global positioning system (GPS), construct a base-camp, identify basic species of plants and animals, and recognize different geographical features. Most skills build on one another to challenge students to be consistent and diligent as they attain more skills and advance on to the next learning level. Additionally, this program will give its students opportunities to break out of their “urban bubble” and get a healthier perspective on becoming a motivated, disciplined, and goal-oriented leader in their community.
