Hilo High Key Club Disaster Preparedness Project

We have already obtained a $500 grant from the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and 300 disaster preparedness booklets from the Hawaiian Electric Light Company. Our table at KTA (local supermarket) will feature a presentation board with tips on how to be prepared in the face of various emergencies. We will also be distributing the HELCO disaster preparedness booklets. We are also providing a recommended list of items that can be used to assemble a preparedness kit. If KTA will provide a sample kit composed of materials from the list, we will display it at our table and hand out copies of the list, so customers know what to purchase from KTA to be disaster prepared. The sample kit will then be given away in a drawing at the end of the day. We are also considering the purchase of a mass amount of cheap disaster kits that we can give away in addition to the booklets, using our grant money. We will also display and present our project at the Youth Health and Futures Fair at the Prince Kuhio Plaza on Saturday, January 19, 2008. KTA will also receive additional exposure there. In the long run, This project will benefit the community's sense of disaster preparedness, supply people with disaster preparedness items, and help local businesses.
