SHOcase of the Bands is an event that brings the Schaumburg youth community together to educate them on the effects that cancer has on people's lives, through the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life, using entertainment as a medium. The Schaumburg High School club, Students Helping Others (SHO), receives demo tapes of possible bands in February, and they then determine which bands will participate in the show. Bands are then notified and they prepare for the show, making t-shirts that they can sell that will bring in extra profit for the American Cancer Society. Also, student groups organize a bake sale at school which constitutes a portion of the total donations to Relay for Life. A representative from Relay for Life comes to the show and delivers a presentation about halfway through the performance, which helps people understand exactly who they are helping and why it is so important to help. Overall, this project proves to be a great success and provides funding to a charity that is truly deserving.
