Here at the Old Brick Playhouse we strive to improve access to the arts in Randolph County West Virginia. Our most successful program is called Acting Up Literally. This project combines arts education and literacy for first through thrid graders in our area. The children meet once a week for five months to practice reading skills with an original script and learn about the basics of theatre. the program culminates in a staged reading of the script. The program always has a waiting list and the parents continue to rave about the improvement not only in the students reading skills, but also self esteem and character. I have been helping to find support for this program for a year. Before that I was a person who tutored the children. In order to continue the program we are actively searching out any means of funding available. When I was a child this organization helped me so much and now it is my mission to help the Old brick reach out in everyway possible to the at-risk youth in our area. Every year they touch the lives of so many children and it is important to me to keep Acting Up literally alive for another season. The children that we serve truly may never have another opportunity to experience art in such a safe environment. With the guidance of our staff and opportunities like Acting Up Literally opens, we can truly change their lives. It is our motto that in order to be successful, one must first have the opportunity to do so. please consider this program for a plum grant and do your part to keep this innovative program alive.
