The Problem

Volunteer tutors are trained and placed in public elementary schools, mainly in Santa Monica. Our focus is on literacy tutoring, but math tutors are very welcome. Our volunteer tutors like children and appreciate the value of reading. They are not expected to be teachers. Rather, they provide the child an opportunity to focus and to practice. Our training provides tips for bolstering children's confidence as well as basic skills for helping children read. We are asking for a 1 hour per week commitment to this program.
