100 Acts of Kindness Challenge

The Problem

We want to remind and teach the students and staff of Hidden Creek Elementary that kindness truly is contagious and absolutely necessary to create needed change and a better community both within and outside the walls of our school. We are a Kids at Hope and Character Counts school and have the foundation to influence our peers and community!

Plan of Action

By November 1st, 2013 my 5th graders will have presented our 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge to the entire school through individual classroom presentations, and/or a school wide assembly. My students will plan, write, and create a PowerPoint that communicates clearly and effectively, using videos, music, quotes, examples, details, etc. To avoid the "out of sight, out of mind" possibility, my students will wear custom designed t-shirts that demonstrate the pay it forward diagram and the slogan, "Let kindness be your superpower today!" My class will advertise weekly as they wear these t-shirts. Each elementary student will be given a calendar, with a list of example acts, for them to document their kindness daily. Each participant will be recognized on a huge heart display in the cafeteria. Rather than participants receiving a prize for their kind acts, they will experience something much greater; kindness and warmth in their heart. Our challenge will end November 30th, but hopefully we will have started something "good and powerful" that may influence others to "pay it forward". We have started this project with business writing lessons in hopes that the most articulate business letter in the class will motivate and influence a company or individual to sponsor our project which will allow us to purchase 30 t-shirts and advertise kindness during and even after our project has ended. Thank you for reading our plan of attack! :)
