Vital Stats

The Problem

This time around, the Staten Island DS club wants to contribute to society differently, not by raising money, but by spreading knowledge. The 2008 elections are gaining up to us, and fast! Looking over the past school year, I realized that our soon-to-be-seniors will be voting in the next presidential election. This thought amazed me, yet frightened me as well. How many of the juniors know who the candidates in the election are? How many, knowing the candidates, know what they are running for? The fact is, not many students can name even two of the running candidates. That is where the change must start. Next year, the plan is to do something about the lack of knowledge. We will be holding an assembly with students playing roles of candidates such as Clinton, Obama, McCain, and so on. That way, when voting time rolls around in 2008, our votes will count!
