The Problem
Indianapolis has numerous community centers but few offer opportunities to join cheerleading squads and a chance to prepare young girls for cheerleading past the high school level. I would like to expand this opportunity for girls in Indianapolis.
Almost 30% of 15-19 year old African American girls become pregnant each year, which is twice the amount of Caucasian girls. The major problem is that these girls have nowhere to turn for opportunities to grow outside of school.
Plan of Action
In order to fulfill this void we must provide some type of opportunity that will occupy their time and teach them effective ways to stay on the path to success. The Daring Dragons Cheer Squad recognizes the need for an activity that would provide at-risk teen minority girls with a positive extracurricular activity that could potentially open many outlets to future success. To solve this problem, the Daring Dragons Cheer Squad plans to sponsor and start a Cheerleading Clinic that will provide an opportunity for minority teenage girls to keep them off the streets and give them something positive to partake in and look forward to.
