36 SCHOOLS: Bringing Empowering Writing Workshops To Teens & At-Risk Youth
the problem:
The Warrior Woman is an charitable, non-profit organization comprised of Tampa Bay artists who are dedicated to bringing teens and at-risk youth a means of artistic expression through empowering writing workshops.
We believe that exposure to Spoken Word, which is relevant and appealing to teens, will not only encourage them to learn more about poetry, but will provide them with a valuable tool for artistic self-expression and a safe environment to explore their creativity

5why it's important:
The Warrior Woman, Inc started "36 Schools" because we want to travel to three dozen under-funded schools, youth organizations, and teen centers and bring our empowering and creative workshops to young adults who need it most!
By financing our workshops through grants, corporate sponsorship, and personal donations, we can afford to work with teens whose art programs and community events are being cut because of a lack of funding.
the plan of action:
GOAL: Raise enough money to travel to 36 schools and youth organizations
ACTIONS: We created a Do Something club and applied to the DS.org grants. We're also applying for several other grants. We've launched a "Community Partnership" program to get sponsorship from local businesses. In a few months, we will be hosting a fundraiser to bring in even more financial support.
GOAL: Promote The Warrior Woman, Inc.
ACTIONS: We've created a relationship with PR Newswire, a PR firm that offers special packages to non-profits, in the next few months we will put out a media blitz. We're started "Random Acts of Poetry" where we perform in the streets of downtown and pass out flyers and postcards to raise awareness. We have booths at Saturday Morning Market and other popular community events. We launched a Myspace page and have over 1,000 friends!
GOAL: Run workshops for teens and at-risk youth
ACTIONS: We're working on building relationships with local schools and community organizations. We're talking with Girls, Inc and YWCA to bring our creative events to their young women. We're also participating in the Great American Teach In.
how you can get involved:
There are SO MANY WAYS TO HELP! I've broken down our needs by specialty, so you can find what you're interested in. Please get in touch--we'd love to work with you.
COMPUTERS & TECHNOLOGY: We need our website and Myspace page constantly updated. We want to start posting on forums and message boards, start online clubs and more.
SOCIAL NETWORKING: We need e-mail addresses to send out our monthly newsletter, we need people to "friend" others on Myspace & Facebook.
FINANCES: We need help searching for and writing grants, contacting businesses for sponsorship, and coming up with creative fundraisers.
PERFORMING: Join us for "Random Acts of Poetry" where we become street performers and pass out flyers and information.
COMMUNITY: We need people to help us man booths at events like the Saturday Morning Market and Craft/Art Fairs
