The Problem

Alexis Miller (11), a Wy’ East Middle School sixth grader, has a plan for how to change the world. She is currently working on getting The 6.31 Project that focuses on ending Bullying in our schools. She wants to teach kids that it is cool to be socially responsible. Alexis’s goal is to change the way that kids are thinking and feeling about other kids and about themselves. She wonders what it would be like if everyone lived by the words "treat others the way you want to be treated" where the football team looks out for the Goth kids, the Goth kids look out for the math club, ect. The 6:31 project is doing exactly that! With the amount of kids that are being bullied today (on average of 3.5 million kids do not attend school each month due to bullying) She is adamant that NOW IS THE TIME TO CHANGE!!!! Alexis believes that KIDS are the change!!! Saying “if it comes from us we can proudly say that we were the generation that made a difference and SAVED LIVES!!” “I think that we should look out for each other. It is that simple. If I see someone being bullied in the hall at school, I can walk up to them and ask if they are ok. Imagine if a football player is being picked on and a Goth kid walks up and says are you ok…… and then a cheerleader, then a drama kid. The bully will see that the kids are not going to put up with it. We need to make bullying not cool…… anti bullying is the cool thing to do!” ~ Alexis Miller She also has a list called “My Rights” that teaches kids about social responsibility, bullying awareness, suicide avoidance, self esteem and more. Alexis believes that everyone has the right to have high self esteem and a safe social environment at school.

Plan of Action

I am currnetly working with the state legislature on a bill that would create a state wide anti bullying program for the schools. I am working on setting up awareness events with our mayor and local schools.
