A Day's Journey

the problem:

“A Day’s Journey” is a program that will not only impact the Westerners’ view of the varying qualities of life that exist all around the world, but will also show the less-fortunate, in nations such as Afghanistan, that life can be improved upon and unthinkable goals may be obtained with education and perseverance. The program will involve two students being photographed, one from Afghanistan and the other from the USA , who will portray an ordinary day in their lives by having twenty pictures at certain time intervals taken of them by girl photography students. Once the photographs have been taken, the two girls will exchange them, exhibiting them as a group in both countries. The exhibitions will hopefully raise money that will be spent on photography equipment in Afghanistan . The project will change peoples’ perspectives of the strongly contrasting cultures and unite young photographers across the world.

why it's important:

By providing the photographers in Afghanistan with such a project they get the opportunity to make money and improve upon their photography skills. The student photography students in the US also benefit, as they get to work on an assignment, which hopefully teaches them what real-time work experience will be.
Finally the audience of the two final shows in both the US and Afghanistan will be able to get an idea of the contrasting lifestyles that exist all around the world, allowing them to either feel encouraged to help the less-fortunate, or feel the need to strive for a better life.

the plan of action:

I have contacted various organizations until I found one that was interested. The organization turned out to be Aina in Afghanistan. This non-profit group helps out aspiring photographers in Afghanistan by providing them with work and various assignments. Since finding a group, I have been working with my photography teacher on developing the photographs and contacting local organizations that are interested in helping the project financially.
So far I have been able to raise $2500.

how you can get involved:

Others can help by donating money, which will fund photography equipment in Afghanistan and the two exhibits that will take place in the US and the Middle East.
