The Problem

First graders and fifth graders worked together to make abacuses from scratch to support the education of the students of Tuskegee International school. The first graders counted out the beads, the fifth graders glued the pieces of the abacuses together. Both grades colored the abacuses and wrote letters to the students at Tuskegee. These abacuses were taken to Tuskegee by me (Greenie, first grade teacher) where the students used them for math activities.

Plan of Action

I wanted to find a way to raise the consciousness of students in my school and have them be pro-active participants in helping children of other countries develop their knowledge through use of learning materials that the students in my school created.
