The Problem
Everyday someone is suffering from chronic blood loss from cancer, injuries, and other diseases. In order for these people to survive they need blood transfusions to remain stable and healthy. Our club has teamed up with the LifeStream foundation to host blood drives at our school in order to save these people's lives.
Plan of Action
Hosting a blood drive sounds scary but it is actually really fun and rewarding! We first had to contact the LifeStream foundation and become familiarized with one of their representatives (our guy was Glenn). From then on we had over-the-phone meetings and scheduled when and where our blood drive will be. Our most important job was to get the blood drive approved by our activities director so she can then reserve the Multi-Purpose Room for the blood drive. Glenn then visited one of our meetings and gave us information on blood drives as well as who we helped. After, our club had sign up tables for a week to get donors. On the day of the blood drive we put on our LifeStream shirts (the Academy of Giving shirts) and helped the LifeStream staff set up. Throughout the blood drive we ran the nutrition bar to pass out food and drinks to the donors and were by their side when they were donating!
