The Problem

Many African countries find it difficult to attract and retain experienced physicians because salaries are so low. In Malawi, for example, a doctor earns on average just $70 USD per month and thus practices medicine for an average of only 3 years. Physicians are leaving developing nations such as Malawi in droves to seek more reasonable pay and better resources in other parts of the world.

Plan of Action

My plan is to raise funds for the non-profit organization Adopt a Doctor, which provides financial aid and other critical resources to doctors so that they can stay where their services are needed most. My specific project will be an awareness dance event modeled after the Slumdog Millionaire "Jai Ho" dance routine. This will be a filmed dance routine, with the goal of promoting awareness for the organization's mission. I hope to have upwards of 120 people of all ages participate in the event.
