See It

Every summer I notice youth hanging out and doing a lot of negativity around the neighborhood. Last year I decided that there needs to be a change towards positive initiatives within my community. What brings about positive change more than cultural awareness. Let me show these young peole that the have a greater meaning in life, and a powerful cultural history. So I decided to have a annual festival that allow youth not only to witness culture dances, songs, and plays. It allowed them to play a major part in hosting this event for their community. They were excited and encouraged many of their friends to part-take in such an experience. These young people between the ages of 13-19 became the organizers, promoters, and coordinators of our African Heritage Awareness Day Festival (TAHAD FEST). The youth were able to put together a show that brought African Arts and Clture to the community as well as themselves, and they were grateful. This summer I want the experience to be a little more grand, with more drummers and a bigger turnout. The festival is being planned to take place between July or August.
