See It

It has always been my dream to open an orphanage for children. In the 7th grade I learned at HIV/AIDS and it really intrigued me. Ever since then, I have wanted to open an orphanage in Africa, and just recently I have decided where and when I plan to do this. I would love to start now to prepare myself emotionally, physically and mentally for this trip. I have been learning about the culture, the disease, and all of the need-to-know facts. I have chosen Swaziland, Africa as my location and I already have a few people ready to go with me. I plan to attend college for this dream, and obtain a degree in Social Work and a degree in Education. This all seems surreal, but every time I find a new site, new information and new people willing to help, I realize that it's coming to life. My best friend, Laura, is standing behind me completely. Both of us have talked to our mother's about our decision to move to Africa in 5 years. We've been looking for a way to start a foundation/organization in support of this cause, for financial help that will be needed and more than greatly appreciated.

I suggest you visit the Aga Khan Development Network's website: www.akdn.org to find contacts and information before you go on your trip...AKDN is an organization that has created many sustainable hospitals and schools in Africa and Asia, and they know the area well, so they might help you with your orphanage!
Keep us updated on the progress and good luck!
