See It

After seeing the documentary film After Innocence I was moved to spread the word about the plight of the (probably) thousands of people (predominantly african-american men) across the US who are currently in jail for crimes they didn't commit. The more people who know about this horrible occurence, the more we can do to ensure DNA testing to every person who is in jail. Some of the things I want to do -

  • Make everyone and anyone rent the DVD After Innocence and see how the US justice system fights against letting innocent men go free and then treats them horribly, even after they have been exonerated.
  • To increase awareness in my school about this movie, I want to start a flyering campaign. I'll research facts about the justice system and put them up all over my school/neighborhood
  • I will work with the Human Rights club to have a special showing of the movie after school. Hopefully some of my friends will be moved.
  • In addition, I have already worked to increase awareness of the Free Genarlow Wilson Campaign. I emailed all my friends links about the story as well as donated to his legal campaign. He is yet another person who was wrongly convicted (albeit for different reasons) and should be set free!
  • Lastly, I would like to fundraise some more for the Life After Exoneration Project. There are people who have been in jail for 20 years and when they are exonerated, they receive little or nothing for all the time they spent wasting away in jail!
