why it's important:

So many lives are lost or changed forever on this one night because teenagers divert themselves irresponsibly on this night. Prom is supposed to be a night to remember, not regret.

the plan of action:

In collaboration with the Students Against Destructive Desicions (SADD)club and the Associated Student Body (ASB) Santa Clara High School put on it's first After Prom Party to offer a safe environment in which students could have a good time after Prom without the aid of alcohol and substance abuse. The week before Prom, we presented different ways of realizing the gravity of drinking and driving. Statistics were read during the morning announcements and trivia questions were asked at lunch for prizes.
Tickets were sold to the after prom party, which was held in our gymnasium. We had rented various arcade games, inflatable fun houses, black jack and poker tables, and tons of fun stuff to do. There was a karaoke machine and movies played in the lobby. We also had a buffet of different foods and raffles for prizes that ranged from miscellaneous toys to iPods. The event lasted all night after prom, providing a safe place for students to have fun with their friends.

The following year we held the After Prom Party at Golf n' Stuff, a miniature golf park with an arcade, lazer tag, and bumper cars. It was an unforgettable night.

how you can get involved:

Suggest to your principal or administration the idea of hosting an After Prom Party. Poll the student body to see where they'd like to hang out after prom. some venues include renting out a bowling alley or movie theatre for the night.
