The Problem

The All-Star Program works to keep kids off the streets and in safe and productive environments. The All-Stars of Rock program successfully supplies music to 600 at-risk youth in 21 middle and high schools throughout Los Angeles. We are working to increase the number of youth served to try and keep even more kids off the drug and gang infested streets.

Plan of Action

Our organization started with All-Stars of Rock at one school and pushed it to be offered at all 21. Each school has a music instructor that holds a class of 20 students everyday for three hours a day. With this much practice, youth improve their skills at an amazing pace. Once a band becomes stage-ready, we find various community and organizational events where they can showcase their skills. Students from this program often come back to their schools once they've graduated to stay apart of the music program and to give back to the program that helped them stay focused and in school. In the past 3 years we've been able to offer over 1,500 students music lessons in rock, hip-hop, mariachi, drumline, classical and jazz. We plan to continue offering these courses and also increasing the number of youth able to be served at each site by bringing in more volunteers.
