The Problem

I am trying to solve a multitude of issues in Angola, Africa. There are barely any afterschool programs and there are no community centers for children. There are some organizations that address HIV/AIDS but not enough. There are major sanitation issues and educational improvements that need to take place. The country just came out of a war 7 years ago so there is a lot to be done. Poverty is a major factor in all these issues and hopefully through education and services I will help in uplifting this hopeful country. The good news is that Angola has a lot of promise and is progressing very fast. The government has ministries that address various issues and I think that alot of education has taken place. I have started my own non-profit organization to help children in Angola, Africa. Our plan is to eventually build an educational/cultural center that will provide health, sanitation, and wellness services as well as recreational activities, mentoring, mental health, and educational services. One project we are working on is called The Prevent Malaria Campaign. The leading cause of death in Angola is malaria. More than half the population lives in malaria-prone areas where transmission occurs throughout the entire year.

Plan of Action

Our plan of action is to really focus on hosting a variety of programs in order to introduce the U.S. and Angola to the types of programs our center will have. Another program we are currently doing in collaboration with Reigners Ministry is called the Unity Clothing Drive. In attempts to strengthen the bond and collectivity between countries in the African diaspora, we have collected 10 bags of clothes and donated them to countries. Some of the countries we have donated these clothes to include: U.S., Haiti, Cameroon, Nigeria and possibly Angola in the future; we will continue this project until 2013. We believe that our center will be very much needed in Angola and the programs will be so varied, educational, and fun that the Angolan people will truly benefit from it for the rest of their lives.
