The Problem
A huge number of kids in the Philippines grow up without having shoes. Many die and suffer from these bacterias and diseases that live in the dirty streets and unsanitary canals. In solving this huge problem, I would like to design my own type of shoes made from recycled materials and give back to those kids that deserve to play without having to worry about getting sick.
Plan of Action
In order to make this happen, I will study everything I need to know about designing and making shoes at the Art Institute of Portland. I have made shoes in the past, and have already created a prototype that I could use for this project, made from recycled materials, and I want to take it to a higher level. Once I have made enough shoes for the project, I would like to make my first shoe drop to a certain orphanage where I grew up. Later, I want to educate people how to make their own shoes using what they already have available, in order to prevent the illness.
I have not shared this idea with very many people, but the ones I have shared it with have been very supportive and excited about the project.
