The Problem

After-school programs are a vital tool in boosting student self-image while supporting learning at school. The Southside of Winston-Salem does not currently have a free after-school enrichment program for students K-5 that gives youth a chance to explore art, science and the world around them in a way that leads to academic and social growth. A program like Alliance for Creative Thinking can help boost student test scores, overall academic performance at school, and provide students with exciting opportunities to contribute to their neighborhood.

Plan of Action

We want to run a pilot program in the Southside for around twenty students that allows us to test out our curriculum and gauge community interest. We've received permission from a local church to use classrooms in their auxiliary building for the rest of the school year, and we're already an incorporated non-profit in the state of North Carolina. We have also developed a long-term vision for the next five years, but believe that this pilot program is crucial to evaluating our model and its effectiveness.
