Allie's Army
the problem:
I am going to solve the problem of Type 1 Diabetes. There are 23.6 million people in the United States, or 8% of the population, who have diabetes. The total prevalence of diabetes increased 13.5% from 2005-2007. Only 24% of diabetes is undiagnosed, down from 30% in 2005 and from 50% ten years ago. 0why it's important:
I am going to donate the money I raise from the party to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). This foundation supports the search for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, which I have. A cure is important because Type 1 Diabetics (T1D) have to take many injections of insulin and test their blood sugar throughout the day. It gets pretty annoying so I decided to help create a change.
the plan of action:
My project is still underway. My intent is to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by holding a party where I will sell homemade earrings, bracelets, bath products, candles, headbands, pushpins, original photography prints amongst other similar things. So far I have made numerous earrings, bracelets, and candles and I have the photography ready to be printed.
how you can get involved:
Others can help me personally by donating money and buying my products. Others can help the problem as a whole by learning more about it and becoming pro-active in the search for a cure.
