The Problem

The problem that we were trying to solve was the lack of awareness of the issues facing poverty stricken individuals here in America and the response of the government to help. We were there to help gut out homes in places that had been hit the hardest, like the lower ninth ward, and begin the rebuilding phase.

Plan of Action

My plan was to apply for another way to spend spring break. I wanted to learn more about New Orleans and the damage that Hurricane Katrine did to the city and the people. I had seen the disaster on television and read about its effects but I was interested in actually getting a hands on experience of what the city looked like after the storm. I am glad I went because it opened up my mind to the issues facing poor communities in the United States.
