The Problem

The problem I was trying to solve was people giving up hope. After Hurricane Katrina devastated not only New Orleans, but the Nation, I decided it was time for me to stop just watching the news. I decided it was time for me to stop saying "aww those poor people" and actually get up and do something about. I went online to see how I could possibly donate to a charity or some other charitable contribution (i.e. giving clothes/canned goods). Thats how I came across a program that would allow me to directly volunteer.

Plan of Action

I joined Americorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). NCCC is a program that strengthens communities and develops leaders through team-based national and community service. In partnership with nonprofit organizations, state and local agencies, and faith-based and other community groups. Members complete service projects throughout the 50 states and some U.S. territories. We were trained in CPR, first aid, public safety, education, environment, disaster relief and other skills.
