The Problem

In AmeriCorps NCCC we work in areas of need in communities across the United States such as disaster response, environmental issues, and education. I have worked with Habitat for Humanity in Louisiana, doing home rebuilding for Hurricane Katrina victims. I also worked at a non-profit summer camp in Arkansas doing camp maintenance and beautification. Also I have worked with kids at the Denver Children's Home, mentoring, tutoring, and helping to improve the physical aspects of the Home.

Plan of Action

As a team, when we are assigned a project, we come up with a plan for how we will carry it out, stay motivated, and incorporate service learning activities into our project. We work full time at our projects to get things done quickly and efficiently, while learning along the way. I have helped maintain and beautify a summer camp, tutored and mentored at risk youth, and helped build 8 homes for Hurricane Katrina victims/low-income families, as well as other smaller service projects.
