Amistad

the problem:

Every Wednesday night, my family and I volunteer at a Hispanic outreach at Martin Trailor Park in Enterprise, Al. A local church has a few trailors there where the people come and learn about the Bible. We also feed them occasionally, like tonight when we fed over 100 people Thanksgiving dinner. Also, on Wednesday afternoons there is free tutoring for the children having trouble in school and ESL classes for the parents. People bring clothes too that we give away.
What we need is more room to facilitate the people; it is getting really crowded. We also need computers to use in the ESL classes and donated instruments for lessons. We would also like to build a playground for the children in the trailor park.

why it's important:

These Hispanic people at the trailor park are extremely poor. They, like everyone else have dreams, but, for them, reaching them seems impossible. We want to give them a chance to succeed and rise out of their circumstances. As a musician, I see so much potential in many of the kids that come to be great musicians. I want to give them a chance to reach their dreams by offering free instrumental/voice lessons to them.It is in my heart to someday be able to open up a music school for underpriviledged children. This is my passion!

the plan of action:

My mom is looking to rent a trailor out at the trailor park to use as a "Community Center." There, we will be able to cook mass meals & provide other needs of the people in the park. My mom and I would also like to use it as a place to do private instrumantal/voice lessons. We have already have one piano we are going to move into the trailor, but we are looking for more to be donated.
My mom is the assistant principal at the elemantary school that all the kids at the park attend. She is seeing if we can use some of the school's laptops for the ESL classes. It would be excellent to have our own though strictly for the purpose of using in the ESL classes.
Because of the volunteers that help at Martin Trailor Park, children and parents are being taught about the Bible, lifelong friendships are being formed, and people's needs are being met. Not only have we impacted these people, but they have impacted us substantially.
