The Problem

My brother attends a middle school in my community. I also work at several midde schools in the community. I have heard many reports of bullying, and even seen it with my own eyes. A child was even recently driven to commit suicide because of bullying at a local middle school. With my project, I want to educate children on the effects of bullying. Many kids just aren't simply aware of the extreme consequences that can happen. My project will highlight the effects of bullying in attempts to stop community hatred and bullying.

Plan of Action

My plan to stop bullying is this: anti-bullying campaigns. Plays would be preformed at each school that highlight the effects of bullying. Each middle school in my community would hold an assembly. At the assembly, the plays would be preformed for all grades. The plays would demonstrate bullying and the consequences. The plays would not simply lecture the students on bullying, but rather bring to light the actual everyday incidents. It would especially highlight how to change bullying into positive interactions. Booklets about bullying would also be handed out to every student. I hope that by educating students about bullying and presenting real life situations, students may actually take time to think about their actions before they start to bully. Those that are bullied may also be able to relate to the play and feel more accepted, knowing that bullying is wrong and it is not their fault. Bullying counselors would also be able for a time after the assembly. They would welcome students who would like to talk about the issue of bullying. By taking the time to talk to individual students, children would feel accepted. It would help them to talk about bullying. They could also receive guidance on how to react to bullying. This could help prevent the self-esteem issues and negative reprecussions that come from bullying.
