The Problem

We want to help reduce the cancer risk for all people around the world, starting with our community. Cancer has become a disease that almost everybody knows of, and almost everybody has known somebody who has had some form of cancer be it breast cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, or another of the countless different types.

Plan of Action

We are going to fund raise to gather enough money to rent a banquet room for a few hours. During those hours, we will be serving dishes of foods that have been scientifically shown to reduce risk of cancer. We will also try to get a cancer survivor to speak and club members will educate people about what they should eat and why it helps them. Some foods that are well-known cancer-fighters are: Tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, garlic, whole wheat, oranges, strawberries, and sweet potatoes. But that isn't all, there are many more tasty foods that can help!

Project Updates

The event was held on October 24, 2010 and it was a great success!
We raised over $400 and gave a $250 donation to Shriners Children's Hospital and got to educate Davis about all of the amazing cancer fighting foods out there.
We want to thank DoSomething.org for giving us the resources ($1,000) to get our project started, we never could have done it otherwise! Also we want to thank Joe Herman the owner of Chipotle in Davis, Caffe Italia, the Rocknasium, and Fonda Smith for donating items for our raffle.
Hopefully we'll be able to do another similar event in the future that is even more successful!
Thank you all so much!!!!

Hey everybody!
So we have set a date for the event: October 24th, and reserved the space.
Also, it will be called "Take a Bite Out of Cancer"
More fundraising still needs to be done, we're currently writing to corporations in hope of getting a few sponsors.
2 more months!

Amazing! Thank you Do Something for the grant and the title of the Western Region Champion, this means so much to us, the $500 is just what we needed so that we can put a down-payment on a room for the banquet.
In the past month we have put on 2 fundraisers and 2 more are approaching. Unfortunately the fundraisers haven't brought in more than $30 so this grant is truly a blessing and means everything to us.
Please vote for us as Clubs Champions, another $1000 would be just what we need to pay for the food, facilities and everything else to help make this project become a great event and help everybody learn about what THEY can do to prevent cancer.
Thank you thank you and thank you again!
