The Problem
The purpose of this organization is to help the youth in the city of Apopka have a voice in the legislative dealings of our city. A small group of us, along with a city commissioner, took it upon ourselves to do research in order to effectively execute the formation of this board for our city. We conducted surveys throughout our area in order to find out what issues concerned our youth the most. After doing a significant amount of research, we asked the mayor if we could do a presentation for him and his fellow commissioners in order to convince them of why the youth in our city should be able to have a greater voice in our city. In our presentation we discussed various projects the Youth Advisory Board would commit to if the mayor allowed it to be formed. As a Youth Advisory Board we hoped to become members of the "Adopt-A-Road" program in our city. We also hoped to start a monthly "teen movie night", in order to give the youth in our city a safe and fun place to be. We hope to promote voting, education, community service, and to warn youth of the dangers of drug use. We want the youth to feel more apart of our city while at the same time helping them grow into even greater more successful individuals. I am only 17 years old but by starting this board I was hoping to help the youth of our city by providing them with more ways to become more involved in their community. After months of preparation, the mayor finally approved the formation of a Youth Advisory Board for the city of Apopka. In the coming months we hope to begin executing projects that will positively impact the youth of our city and our community.

This sounds really interesting - definitely keep us posted on how it goes and all the cool programs you're doing
Good for you, more young people should get involved in local government. It sounds like a mutually beneficial program that will be a great addition to the community.
