The Problem

The Apples for Students program began in 1998 serving 200 students that were in need of back to school supplies. St. Mark Community Center has gathered community support in raising more than $12,000 to purchase the necessary materials that students need to begin school in August 2009. Last year, we were able purchase, organize and distribute 1,500+ bags of supplies to disadvantaged students in the Dubuque public and parochial schools. We could not do this without our local partners.

Plan of Action

To continue increasing the number of students served by creating partnerships with organizations in the community.

Project Updates

We had a goal of increasing the amount of contributions given to supplies students with the supplies needed to go back to school. We have reached our goal and surpassed, but also had more children to get the needed back to school supplies to. We have raised more than $20,000 and supplied more than 1,500 kids with the needed supplies. School began on August 24th.
