The Problem

The Kitty Anderson Youth Science Center in the Science Museumof Minnesota’s motto is "empowering youth to change the world through science". My project to create aquaponic systems with the kids at the Arts Us community center, not only teaches them a new way to garden (which is normally a couple hundred dollars) but also promotes the idea of urban agriculture. Creating more “green space” in cities, it reduces individual’s carbon footprint, helps tackle deforestation, and promotes healthy eating!

Plan of Action

I wanted to do something that would be fun and educational for the kids at the Arts Us garden! My idea for this project is to create 3+ mini aquaponic systems that the kids would be able to not only create but also manage in their small groups throughout the summer. Not only would this be a great activity for the kids to do because it introduces them to a new system of gardening, it would also give D.R.E.A.M.S a way to keep gardening during our off season at Arts Us.
