Arbor and Bench
the problem:
I am dressing up the schools entrance, and making it more noticable from far away. The community that I helped is a nice, and friendly enviroment for Canterbury lower division school.

50why it's important:
For my Eagle Scout Project, I constructed an arbor measuring 8’x 2’-6” x 10’ high, with an integrated bench measuring 1’-6” x 4’-7”. The project was constructed with pressure treated wood and fastened with galvanized carriage bolts as well as deck screws. The post were dug two feet in the ground and filled with sackreat for support. The project was installed at Canterbury Lower Division School located on 1200 Snell Isle Blvd NE. St. Petersburg, Fl 33704. The project is important to me because I attend the church that the school is a part of. And I wanted to give back to the church/school. the purpose of my eagle scout project was to enhance and beautify the school grounds. the bench allows visitors to sit in the cool shade.
the plan of action:
During the process of my eagle scout project I first had to come up with what I was going to do. then I had to find a place to build my project. when I first presented the idea of my project to the school they originaly wanted a 50 foot long arbor which would have been $4,000. so I down sized their idea into what my project is now. Lee Harvard, a local Architect and benefactor of Canterbury Lower Division School, helped on design and structural elements. after the planning process was over I needed money so I had a car wash in which i raised over $1,000. then I got the materials that were needed such as lumber and hardware. everything else including refreshments were donated by sweetbay and publix. I scheduled a pre-build day in which a few friends and I cut, drilled, measured, and assembled all the necessary pieces so that the day of the project it would fit together like a puzzle. The morning of the construction day we assembled all the tools and the other essential parts needed. A total of 50 scouts and scouters attended that day. about six months later I stained the bench and put a plaque on top with my name and the completed date on it. I believe I made a very good impact on the school, the church and in the community over all.
