The Problem

The United States Armed Forces are fighting overseas for our freedom and lack certain amenities . My Eagle Scout Project collected items that makes their stay overseas a little bit more comfortable (t-shirts, baby wipes, deodorant, shaving cream etc.) in order to support the soldiers who sacrifice so much to keep our borders safe.

Plan of Action

I wrote out a detailed plan of what i needed, how I was going to obtain those items and where I was going to send them to. I contacted Jann McCart the director of soldiersangels.org who not only supplied me with an address, but further suggestions of what to put into the care packages as well. After my plan was accepted by the Boy Scout Council (Hudson Valley District) I was able to carry it out. The first thing I did was look for item donations from places such as, Crystal Run Health Care other doctors offices and organizations such as the Catholic War Veterans. In my plan I had a set date to do a fundraiser with Burger King in early December (with the help of my Boy Scout Troop 66 from Goshen, NY). I also received money donations from anyone who was willing to give it. The next thing was to organize all the items and money I obtained thus far and figure out what else I need to obtain. I bought the rest of the items with the money I received from my fundraiser and donations. The last thing was to ship out the packages, which was done on February 16, 2008 with the help of my Boy Scout Troop (Troop 66 from Goshen, NY). The entire project took me 6 months to complete, including when I started planning in September 2007.
