The Problem

The state of Texas has undergone drastic budget cuts in the past year. And when schools cut their budget, music and arts programs are usually the first to go. Without a safe, creative place to express themselves, students in Austin are at disadvantage. The emphasis in the classroom is placed on standardized test scores rather than a comprehensive learning environment. Because of this, students are encouraged to memorize grammar and vocabulary concepts rather than exploring the real world applications of these skills.

Plan of Action

Attendance Records focuses on connecting public school students in Austin with musicians and artists within our vibrant community. The artists will be able to share their own unique experiences creating art and being involved with the art community in Austin. This not only allows the students to be inspired and learn more about the creative process, but it allows the artists to share their knowledge and experience in a mentoring capacity. This allows both audiences to interact and build from their unique experiences.
