Ban the Use of Plastic Shopping Bags
the problem:
We are trying to solve the problem of using plastic shopping bags. These bags are the cause of a lot of the pollution in our environment. Not only are they seen all around on the streets, but they are showing up in oceans were they are killing over 100,000 marine animals a year! They can cause flooding if they get stuck in sewers. Even though these can be recycled, only 1% of the bags used every year wind up recycled.

25why it's important:
This is imporant to us because when we grow older, we want the world to be stable and clean for future generations. We would also like to be able to live longer without the thoughts that something as small as one simple plastic bag could be the end of our world as we know it.
the plan of action:
Our plan is to get the state of New Jersey to pass a law banning the use of plastic shopping bags by the year 2012. We have already started a bill, A2921, which we are trying to get some of our senate to sponsered as it is already sponsered by Nilsa Cruz-Perez, our assemblywomen. We have been to the state house in Trenton once and are going again this year to push things even further.
