The Problem

The problem we are trying to prevent is bullying; we want to bring awareness of the issue to our school. Bullying is when a person verbally, physically and/or emotionally harms or hurts another person with or without intent. Bullies can target people based on their race, ethnicity, gender, cultural/social backgrounds, sexual orientation and many other factors. This negative behavior can result in severe outcomes such as physical violence, depression, isolation from peers, low self esteem and suicide.

Plan of Action

Our plan is to bring awareness of bullying to our school and community. We plan on doing this by creating a week-long anti-bullying campaign. On Monday we will hold an anti-bullying workshop. During the workshop we will have an information session to bring more awareness to help students identify the different types of bullying, some of the outcomes and the resources available. On Tuesday the members of Sisters to Hermanas will set up a table for students during lunch to give out brochures on bullying and to promote anti- bullying. Also they will be walking around the lunchroom informing people on the issue. During the rest of the week we have the following things tentatively planned: a talent show, a day of silence and a t-shirt and wrist band sale. All of these have the purpose of bringing the school and community together to promote zero tolerance for bullying, and to bring this issue to light.
