The Problem
I want to help girls of all ages see how truly beautiful they are. I want to help each one of them to develop a positive self concept and body image. Too many girls have insecurities that are fueled by external factors such as the media, society, and television. I want to break down these insecurities in order to prevent harmful eating disorders and destructing negative self concepts. I want to help young girls to become confident in their own skin and to love themselves completely. I hope to also reinforce the truth that they are capable of achieving any dream they may have and that confidence and self acceptance will only fuel their dreams and aspirations in becoming true. For this, I am starting a website for young women and girls to help accomplish this dream I have for myself; my dream is to impact these girls through this website.
This is important because eating disorders are rising in our country and they are a lot more serious than our society has claimed them to be. They destruct individuals physically and mentally and as they escalate, the diseases become more and more destructive to the individual. These diseases change personalities and behaviors as well as lead to depression and isolation.
A few of the health problems that arise with eating disorders include malnutrition, electrolyte imbalances, muscle atrophy, chronic fatigue syndrome, blood pressure irregularities, hypotension, lanugo, edema, transient paralysis, digestive difficulties, anemia, osteoporosis, kidney and liver problems, ketoacidosis, esophagus problems, seizures, pancreatitis, gastric rupture, infertility, as well as some forms of cancer.
Eating Disorders are serious and affect the body, mind, and soul. These individuals who fall victims to these diseases are in need of a support system as well as many sources of encouragement.
Plan of Action
This website will be called “Beautiful Me” and can be a great support system for those who are struggling with confidence issues as well as eating disorders. This website will be a great source to overcome these barriers for its members. I am looking for the website to be structured in order for girls to create accounts so that they can support each other through message boards and blogs. I would like to post daily quotes, pictures, and blogs myself on the website to encourage the website’s members everyday that they can overcome their inner struggles and to also allow each and every one of them that they are indeed uniquely beautiful. I am currently trying to get the website started and I would love anyone’s help who knows all the logistics about creating a website.
In the future, I want to start a non-profit organization called "Beautiful Me" that devotes all of its earnings to helping young children and young adults reach their ultimate and full potential. I will start this project while I am in college to help it get developed and then after I graduate, I will have the ability to get companies to sponsor my organization. I plan to work with children to help them achieve their greatest goals and their deepest desires. With the business's earnings, I want to create activities and meetings for the kids to discover who they truly are and to help them see how beautiful each one of them is, inside and out. My organization will be completely dedicated to helping children and teens overcome negativity that schools, media, classmates, or even other family members can bring towards them. This organization will be devoted to helping kids develop a better self concept and self esteem so that each one of them will be able to carry out their dreams effectively and efficiently. This organization's goal will be to prevent self destructing habits and behaviors, eating disorders, teen suicide, and so forth. I know that confidence and self acceptance can be extremely hard to gain during childhood and during the awkward teenage years. My organization will help establish these crucial assets in many individuals so that they can accomplish their true dreams without letting other factors such as their confidence or their unneeded insecurities affect their future.
