more community awareness and knowledge of domestic violence

I've been involved with a community service group through my mom since I was a young girl, whose main project is a transitional housing program for victims of domestic violence

I. Goal: I am going to organize a free self-defense and dating violence seminar with Soroptimist International of Poway at Breathe Fitness Center in Poway. II. Purpose: This is going to be a free seminar for all women to teach them self-defense tactics and to open their eyes to the reality of domestic violence in their community. My project fits under the Community Contributor because I am providing a free event to teach women how to keep themselves safe. This will provide to the community because it will hopefully make the community safer as a whole. The event is scheduled for 2/6/2010 and if I get a grant, the monies would be used to print bookmarks that provide information about dating violence and steps to take to deal with it.
