BHS Winter Dreams
the problem:
Every year my school, Blythewood High School, hosts a program called Winter Dreams that gives to the needy. We have various activities within the association so anyone and everyone will have an oppurtunity to give. Some of our focuses include younger children in foster care, children with the Sickle Cell disease, and those in need of food and clothes. One of our activities is called Stocking Stuffers. Stocking Stuffers are christmas stockings that are filled with small items, such as toys or even toiletries, donated from the students at our school. Even though it doesn't seem like much, our objective is to brighten a child's life who may be very ill on Christmas day. There is also another program called Bengal Bells where students spend $50 on buying several toys and gifts to a child they "adopted" that has been placed in foster care for a day. There are many students who would love to care for that child, even if it is for a short period, but do not have the $50 to spare. This means another child who might not receive the chance to experience an amazing event that will bring such joy into his/her life. As a member of my school's house government, I believe it is my responsibililty to promote and do whatever I can to convince others to give to the less fortunate.

30why it's important:
Being apart of this organization at my school is very important to me because if I was in the situation that so many less fortunate others are in today, I would be very grateful for any help I can receive, even if it was receiving something small like a toothbrush. Each and every day my objective when I wake up in the morning is to put a smile on someone's face, despite whether I know them or not. Sometimes being in a harsh and troubled situation might discourage so many that there is no hope left. What I want to do, because I believe it is my responsibility, is shed light in someone's life and give them hope, letting them know that there is much light at the end of a deep, dark tunnel. All you need to do is believe.
the plan of action:
My plan of action is continue to donate money and encourge my fellow peers to give. There are so many ways to give hope, money is not always the answer. I want to reach out to the students of my high school and let them know that by doing whatever they can, no matter the size, can really make a huge impact in so many people's lifes.
how you can get involved:
Other people can help by donating money, old clothes, toiletries, clothes, canned goods, and anything else they can think of! I can be contacted at Leslie2535@yahoo.com
Thanks!
