See It

The HIPPY program is about helping underprivileged parents teach their three, four, and five-year-olds at home so that when their children enter kindergarten they are ready to succeed along with parents ready to support them throughout their educational careers.

Believe It

B.I.K.E., led by Scott Eisner, has helped to better the lives of families in the community by providing them with food for the holidays, back-to-school supplies and bikes used for transportation and fun that families could otherwise not afford. Parents of the program feel proud that their children now have something they could not afford to buy them. B.I.K.E. turned a negative situation into a positive by recycling stolen, unclaimed bikes and then returning them to the community in a useful and positive way. Unused bikes are now serving a meaningful purpose and others have been inspired to give as a result of the mission and the vision of this young man

Build It

Scott and Matt enthusiastically shared information and details about B.I.K.E., their newly formed organization, to faculty and students at Stoneman Douglas High and other surrounding area schools. They created an internet website, composed flyers and inducted additional students to serve as officers and members of B.I.K.E. Officers made presentations to clubs at their school including Rho Kappa, the Drama Club, and Interact, to ask for support. Rho Kappa co-sponsored a Thanksgiving Food Drive, Interact and the Drama Club will be working with B.I.K.E. on a project next year. The organizations mission and purpose was also advertised in local community newspapers; community members were urged to donate bikes that they no longer needed or used to help enhance the lives of others. B.I.K.E. has formed an ongoing partnership with Broward Sheriff’s Office who heard about the organization and wanted to help. They donated bikes that were lost or stolen belonging to the counties collection of unclaimed property. Since its inception, B.I.K.E. has collected and distributed more than 125 bikes to HIPPY children and families. They have expanded their resources and ideas to include other projects to help the families through-out the year. B.I.K.E. collected over 500 cans of food during Family Central’s 2007 Thanksgiving Food Drive. They also solicited local stores in the community to donate back-to-school items such as backpacks, pens, pencils etc. for HIPPY children. Scott received the Sheriff’s Special Recognition Award in 2007 and additional recognition from Family Central’s HIPPY Program. In 2008, Scott received a letter of commendation from the Sheriff’s office. Next year, B.I.K.E. will be engaging the support of other school clubs to collect bikes, food and educational supplies. B.I.K.E. has been featured in the Miami Herald, and Sun-Sentinel newspapers, CBS TV, and other local publications. To date, Scott has devoted over 250 service hours to this project.
