The Problem

With the economic downturn our country has been experiencing - no one is immune to the hardships we are all facing. There are about 12,000 people who live in my community. About 50% of the children who attend the city's public school system are eligible for free or reduced lunch. In my county, the unemployment rate has reached a 16 year high. In 2006, the major employer of our city shut its doors. Their closing left a major hole in our economy that has only gotten worse in the recent years.

Plan of Action

In an effort to collect donations, I have started a drive for personal hygiene items at my local middle school and high school. I have also written letters to local businesses asking for donations of items or monetary donations. Also, we will have designated "stuffing days" where we will take the donations and stuff the B.I.T. Kits for distribution.
